The Telegraph – At 25, youth richer by four degrees

Shillong, April 3: It is said that books are a person’s best friend. For this 25-year-old from Mumbai, the maxim certainly rings true. Vineet Jain, hailing from Mumbai’s Borivali area, will receive his MBA, his fourth degree so far, at IIM Shillong on Saturday.

He completed his company secretaryship (CS) at the age of 21 in 2009 from the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, chartered accountancy (CA) at the age of 22 in 2010 from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He even holds a CFA in 2014 from the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts in the US. Jain’s success story was motivated by the motto — nothing is impossible! But apart from the motto, he attributed his success to family support and his only sister Avani, who works as an ophthalmologist at Sion Hospital.

But Jain feels that the MBA degree to be conferred on Saturday could be the last for now, unless some other exciting courses attract him in the future. “I have always liked finance as a subject and investment banking attracts me a lot. I am also interested in mergers and acquisitions, initial public officers and the like,” Jain, who graduated with a Bcom degree, said. He also said he would be looking for industry exposure after attaining the degree.

The young man, however, has not decided whether he would opt for a job abroad or remain in India. “I will first go home and then decide what to do next,” he added. Jain will be among the 107 students of the two-year MBA programme (PGDM), and 35 of the one-year executive MBA programme (PGPEX) to receive their certificates on Saturday during the fifth convocation of IIM Shillong.

His father Vimal Jain is proud of his son’s accomplishments. “That too at such a young age when children are often grooming themselves through career coaching classes for competitive examinations or are involved in preparation, receiving so many degrees is an honour. He has worked very hard for it night and day. I am very pleased with his achievements,” he said.

The young Mumbaikar will, however, miss Shillong. “It is a beautiful place where you can experience four climates in a day, unlike in Mumbai. The atmosphere is just perfect, and the people are friendly. My two years of stay here was indeed a great experience.
